The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, has announced an immediate ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles (okada) and tricycles (keke) on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. The directive takes effect this week.

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, said the measure is aimed at protecting the newly constructed superhighway from misuse, premature deterioration, and unsafe road practices. He described the highway as a world-class infrastructure that requires proper maintenance and responsible use.

In addition to the ban, the ministry warned that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the highway will no longer be tolerated. Authorities said road signs indicating the restrictions have already been installed, while enforcement teams will be deployed to strategic points to ensure compliance.

The ministry warned that violators will face strict enforcement measures as part of efforts to preserve the highway, improve safety, and maintain order along the corridor
