Former Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 and Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, Chidimma Adetshina, is facing fresh deportation proceedings in South Africa after authorities alleged that she and her young son were living in the country without legal immigration status.

According to reports from South African media, Adetshina appeared before the Cape Town Regional Court on June 9 after she was arrested in the Summer Greens area of Cape Town. She was released on warning and is expected to return to court in July as the Department of Home Affairs pursues her deportation.

Court documents filed by immigration officer Adrian Jackson allege that checks by the Department of Home Affairs confirmed Adetshina did not hold valid South African residency status. The affidavit also states that her minor son was found living in the country without lawful immigration status.

The case stems from a long-running citizenship dispute that began in 2024, when South African authorities alleged that Adetshina’s birth registration was linked to identity fraud involving her mother. The Department of Home Affairs subsequently cancelled her South African documents and declared her a prohibited person. Adetshina has previously denied wrongdoing.

The controversy first drew international attention when Adetshina withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant following intense public debate over her nationality. She later represented Nigeria, winning Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 and finishing as first runner-up at the Miss Universe competition
