Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that there is a fresh and coordinated plot by unnamed elements within the ruling establishment to prevent the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from appearing on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed he had received credible information suggesting that political, legal, and administrative measures were being orchestrated to sideline the ADC from the electoral process.
The former vice president warned that excluding the ADC would amount to a serious assault on Nigeria’s constitutional democracy. He urged Nigerians to defend democratic principles, insisting that political parties should be defeated at the ballot box rather than through alleged manipulation of state institutions or the courts.
Atiku also argued that if the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is confident of its popularity, it should have no reason to fear competition from the ADC. He maintained that the opposition party represents a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
As of the time of reporting, neither the Federal Government, the APC, nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had publicly responded to Atiku’s allegations. The claims remain allegations and have not been independently substantiated
