Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says intelligence reports indicate that the students and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area are still being held within the Old Oyo National Park axis, nearly a month after the incident.

According to Makinde, it has been 27 days since the victims were kidnapped from schools in Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities. He said security agencies are continuing rescue operations and pursuing every credible lead to secure their release.

The governor explained that the Old Oyo National Park covers about 2,500 square kilometres across parts of 10 local government areas, making rescue efforts particularly challenging because of the vast and difficult terrain.

Makinde urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities through the state’s emergency channels, and avoid spreading unverified information that could jeopardize ongoing operations.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked schools in the affected communities and kidnapped dozens of pupils and teachers. The incident sparked protests and renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of Oyo State.

The governor reiterated that the victims remain the top priority of the state government and security agencies, expressing confidence that efforts to rescue them safely are continuing.
