Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised the process surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, questioning why others are handling his nomination forms.

The criticism followed reports that the president’s nomination and expression of interest forms—reportedly costing about ₦100 million—were obtained and signed by David Umahi on his behalf.

Reacting via his verified X (Twitter) account, Sowore questioned the legality and transparency of the process, asking why the forms were being filled “when he isn’t there.”

He also suggested that such an arrangement could allow the president to distance himself from details in the forms, especially regarding sensitive issues like qualifications.

Umahi, however, had earlier defended the move, describing the signing of the forms as a show of support for continuity and consolidation of the administration’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure development.
