The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has advised corps members to avoid flamboyant lifestyles and embrace financial discipline during their service year.He gave the advice while addressing corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Kaduna, urging them to live within their means and cultivate a savings culture.
Nafiu stressed that unnecessary spending and showy lifestyles could negatively affect their future, encouraging them instead to focus on building sustainable habits and planning ahead.
He also urged corps members to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, noting that acquiring practical skills would help them become self-reliant and even create jobs for others after service.
According to him, the scheme has partnered with organisations willing to provide low-interest loans, grants, and starter packs to support corps members in starting businesses.
The NYSC boss further advised them to use their time wisely, remain diligent in training, and start small in business rather than chasing expensive lifestyles that could hinder long-term growth.
