At least two suspected cultists have been shot dead in renewed cult-related violence in the Ojo area of Lagos State, local residents and sources say, in what appears to be a reprisal attack between rival confraternity groups.
The killings took place on Sunday at different locations within the community, with one of the victims identified only as Monday, reportedly a former leader of a confraternity group in Alaba International Market, and the other named Efe, also alleged to be involved in cult activities.
A community source — who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter — said both men were found with gunshot wounds and were believed to have been attacked by members of a rival group in an escalating feud. The bodies were later evacuated by security operatives.
One social media post from an anti-cult platform claimed Monday had been targeted for some time, noting that a close associate was killed in a similar incident last year, reflecting how inter-group reprisals have fuelled recurring violence in parts of Lagos.
As of the time of reporting, the Lagos State Police Command had not yet issued an official statement confirming the incident. Cult-related violence has continued in some areas of the state despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb such clashes.
