Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, representing Zamfara West, has accepted his appointment as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general election.

Yari’s acceptance follows the APC’s decision to appoint him to lead the campaign structure as the party prepares for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The former Zamfara State governor is expected to play a central role in coordinating the APC’s campaign activities and mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

His appointment is significant because of his extensive political experience and influence within the APC. Yari served as governor of Zamfara State from 2011 to 2019 before moving to the Senate, where he currently represents Zamfara West.

The APC has also begun putting other key figures in place for the campaign. Reports indicate that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has been named Secretary of the campaign council, with other senior party members expected to occupy strategic positions.

Yari’s acceptance comes as political preparations for 2027 intensify across Nigeria. The APC is working to consolidate its support base and secure another term for Tinubu, while opposition parties and emerging political coalitions are also positioning themselves for the presidential contest.

The appointment gives Yari responsibility for helping to coordinate the party’s nationwide campaign, including mobilisation of party members, engagement with stakeholders and efforts to secure electoral support for Tinubu.
