The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Ali Haruna, in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, at No Vex Hotel, Girei, following a reported altercation. Police operatives from the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters were dispatched to the hotel after receiving information about the incident.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, officers arrived at the scene and found the victim with severe injuries and lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a medical facility but was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
The police identified the suspect as Ali Haruna, a resident of Bolori Ward in Maiduguri, Borno State. He was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that Haruna allegedly made statements claiming responsibility for the woman’s death. However, the police stressed that the claim is being treated as part of the ongoing investigation as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the motive.
A knife allegedly used in the attack was also recovered from the suspect and taken as an exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Kabir Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and conduct a discreet and thorough investigation.
The police said anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law, while urging members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
An eyewitness who spoke to Weekend Punch claimed that the suspect had checked into the hotel on Friday afternoon and allegedly committed the killing by around 5pm. The eyewitness further alleged that the suspect claimed the deceased was the third person he had killed that year. That claim has not been independently verified by the police.
