The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected members of the Axe Men Confraternity during a security operation in the state.

The suspects were arrested following intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting cult-related activities and preventing violence in parts of Cross River. Police said the operation also led to the recovery of a locally made pistol and other dangerous weapons.

According to the police, the suspects are currently helping investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the alleged cult group.

The command said the arrests form part of its ongoing efforts to tackle cultism and other violent crimes in the state.

The police also warned criminal elements and cult groups that security agencies would continue to intensify surveillance and operations against activities capable of threatening public safety.

Investigations are ongoing, while the arrested suspects are expected to face prosecution after the completion of the investigation.
