Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the 2026 governorship election.
Davido took to his X account on Sunday, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner, to celebrate the outcome with a brief message: “We did it Unc.”
The singer, who had actively participated in his uncle’s campaign and served as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council, had repeatedly expressed confidence that Adeleke would retain his position as governor.
In a video accompanying his celebratory post, Davido was seen overwhelmed with excitement as he lay on the floor while one of his aides, Israel, congratulated him. The singer’s reaction reflected the significance of the result for the Adeleke family, which has maintained a strong political presence in Osun.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Ademola Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victories in 11 local governments. A total of 1,005,800 votes were cast, with 985,079 recorded as valid votes.
The result gives Adeleke another four-year term in office. He first became governor in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before leaving the party and joining the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.
Davido’s involvement in the campaign had attracted considerable attention, with the singer frequently appearing at political events and using his large public following to support his uncle’s bid for re-election.
Following the official declaration, celebrations were reported in several parts of Osun State, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown.
Davido’s reaction has since added a celebrity dimension to the post-election celebrations, with the singer publicly sharing his joy over his uncle’s return to office.
The governor’s victory also drew congratulations from prominent political figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who both acknowledged Adeleke’s victory and called for continued commitment to democracy and good governance.
