The Kwara State Police Command has launched a fresh operation to enforce traffic regulations and tackle violations by motorists across the state.
The operation, tagged “Operation Velvet,” commenced on Tuesday under the supervision of the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the exercise is a continuous enforcement initiative designed to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws, encourage responsible driving and improve road safety.
The police said the operation would focus particularly on motorists’ compliance with traffic regulations and the possession of valid and legally required vehicle documents.
Motorists are expected to have proper vehicle registration and other relevant documents before using the roads. The command warned that anyone found violating traffic regulations or driving without the required documentation would face sanctions in accordance with existing laws and due process.
The Commissioner of Police urged motorists to cooperate with officers deployed for the exercise and obey traffic regulations.
Adekimi also appealed to road users to drive responsibly, stressing that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property while promoting safer roads across Kwara State.
The police said the enforcement would continue as part of broader efforts to maintain public order and reduce risks associated with reckless driving and other traffic violations.
