The daughters of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance for their father, who they say is battling stage-four cancer.
The emotional appeal was made on Instagram by his daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, who separately called on medical professionals and hospitals willing to take on the actor’s case to come forward.
In a tearful video, Lima said her father’s condition had deteriorated and claimed that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him.
She appealed to anyone with access to cancer specialists or medical facilities that could review his condition and provide further treatment options to come forward. The family stressed that their appeal was for medical assistance, not financial donations.
According to Lima, the family only became aware of the seriousness of the actor’s condition about three weeks ago, despite his outward appearance not initially suggesting the severity of his illness.
She expressed her distress at watching her father’s health deteriorate and pleaded for anyone who could help find appropriate medical care to intervene.
The revelation has generated significant concern within the Nigerian entertainment industry, with several Nollywood personalities rallying behind the veteran actor and his family.
Actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo was among those who publicly appealed for medical professionals and facilities capable of reviewing Hassan’s medical records and exploring possible treatment options.
However, a doctor, Olusina Ajidahun, has cautioned against interpreting the family’s description of the situation as hospitals deliberately abandoning the actor.
Ajidahun explained that patients with stage-four cancer may sometimes transition from treatments such as chemotherapy to palliative care, particularly when available curative treatments have been exhausted or are no longer effective. Palliative care focuses on managing symptoms, improving comfort and maintaining quality of life.
