A fire outbreak has occurred at Purple Crown Hotel on Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road in Ikeja, Lagos, with emergency responders successfully containing the blaze and preventing further spread.

The incident was reported at about 9:52am on Saturday, August 15, 2026, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The fire affected a room on the first floor of the hotel.  

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency’s Tiger Squad, working alongside personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force, arrived at the scene within about 10 minutes of receiving the distress call.

On arrival, responders found that a room on the first floor had been severely affected by the fire. Firefighters immediately commenced operations to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to other parts of the hotel or nearby buildings.

The emergency operation was successful, and the fire was brought under control. No casualties were recorded in the incident. Guests and occupants were also safely evacuated from the affected area.

The prompt response by the emergency agencies helped prevent the incident from developing into a more serious disaster, particularly given the presence of guests and other occupants within the hotel.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical fault, although further investigation is expected to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
