The senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Abdulfatai Buhari, has described the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as a major victory for Nigeria and its security architecture.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday, Buhari commended President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the nation’s security agencies for their coordinated efforts, which led to the safe rescue of the victims after nearly two months in captivity.

The victims, who were abducted during an attack on schools in Oriire on May 15, regained their freedom following a carefully planned security operation. Authorities said the mission was carried out without the payment of ransom, highlighting the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations by the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the police and other security agencies.

Buhari described the rescue as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration between the federal and state governments and security institutions. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible information to strengthen the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The senator also expressed relief that the rescued pupils and teachers have been reunited with their families, describing the development as a moment of hope for the nation. He reaffirmed the need for sustained investment in intelligence gathering, community policing and the protection of schools to prevent similar incidents in the future.
