The Delta State Police Command has arrested 22 suspected drug dealers and rescued two minors during intelligence-led raids on suspected drug dens and criminal hideouts across parts of the state. The operation was carried out on July 21, 2026, as part of efforts to curb illicit drug trafficking and related criminal activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug traffickers. Police operatives raided locations in Ofagbe Community, Ozoro, Ekrejeta and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) area in Abraka.
The command disclosed that the suspects, comprising 19 males and three females, were arrested for alleged offences relating to the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs. During the operation, officers also discovered two minors inside a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father.
The rescued children have been taken into protective custody and will be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care and safeguarding. Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify other members of the alleged drug network.
Reacting to the development, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the discovery of children in a suspected drug environment as disturbing, warning that exposing minors to such surroundings threatens their safety and development. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
The police urged residents, community leaders and parents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in tackling drug-related crimes and protecting vulnerable members of society.
