The Nigerian Navy has handed over two rescued victims of human trafficking to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for protection, rehabilitation and further investigation. The victims were rescued during a targeted anti-human trafficking operation conducted by the Navy in Lagos.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abiodun Folorunsho, the operation was carried out by the Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry following intelligence on suspected human trafficking activities within its area of operation. The victims were subsequently transferred to NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Command in Ikeja.
The Navy said the handover reflects its commitment to tackling human trafficking, irregular migration and other forms of transnational organised crime. It added that collaboration with agencies such as NAPTIP remains essential in protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring that trafficking networks are disrupted.
Following their transfer, the victims are expected to receive necessary support, including counselling, medical attention and rehabilitation services, while NAPTIP continues investigations into the circumstances surrounding their exploitation and works to identify those responsible.
Authorities have continued to warn Nigerians against falling victim to fraudulent job offers and promises of opportunities abroad, noting that human traffickers often use deception to lure vulnerable individuals into exploitative situations.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant security and government agencies to combat trafficking and protect citizens from exploitation.
