Law officers under the Kwara State Ministry of Justice have issued a seven-day notice of indefinite strike to the state government over alleged unpaid statutory allowances and the failure to harmonise their salaries and conditions of service with those of magistrates in the state judiciary.
The Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter, issued the notice in a letter dated July 20, 2026, addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The association warned that if its demands were not addressed within the notice period, members would begin an indefinite industrial action.
The law officers said they had made several appeals to the state government and the Office of the Head of Service regarding their outstanding entitlements but claimed that their concerns had not received adequate attention. They listed their unpaid benefits to include the balance of the 50 per cent furniture allowance for 2020 and robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
The association is also demanding the implementation of the harmonisation of salaries, allowances and general conditions of service for state counsel with those of magistrates in the Kwara State Judiciary, citing an earlier approval from 2005.
According to the law officers, their demands are tied to their welfare and the importance of their responsibilities in the administration of justice and government legal services. They urged the state government to intervene to prevent disruption of legal services across the state.
The development comes amid recent welfare-related concerns among judicial workers in Kwara, with other legal professionals in the state previously raising issues over salary disparities and unpaid allowances.
