Award-winning Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has urged young Nigerians to reject the temptation of seeking quick wealth through dishonest means, saying she deliberately chose hard work and perseverance over an easier but destructive path to financial success.
Speaking during a recent interview with BellaNaija, Akindele reflected on her journey to stardom, revealing that although she had opportunities to make money through immoral means, she remained committed to earning a legitimate living. She stressed that discipline, resilience and consistency have been the driving forces behind her success in the entertainment industry.
The actress recalled hustling as a student at the University of Lagos, where she sold bed spaces to support herself financially. She described herself as a natural hustler, explaining that the challenges she faced early in life shaped her strong work ethic and determination to succeed through honest means.
Akindele encouraged young people not to rely solely on academic qualifications but to acquire practical and marketable skills that can provide sustainable sources of income. According to her, skills development creates opportunities for financial independence, especially in periods of unemployment or economic hardship.
She concluded by urging youths to remain patient and focused on building lasting careers, noting that genuine success comes through dedication, continuous learning and hard work rather than shortcuts. Her remarks have resonated widely, with many fans praising her for sharing the realities behind her remarkable rise in Nollywood.
