Gunmen have abducted the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Budo Aare, Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding a ₦30 million ransom for his release. The victim, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, popularly known as Onaiye, was reportedly kidnapped while returning from his farm.

According to family members, the 60-year-old headmaster was intercepted by armed men between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The abductors later contacted the family and demanded ₦30 million before they would release him.

The victim’s son, Abiola Owoade, appealed to the Oyo State Government, security agencies and members of the public to assist in securing his father’s safe release, describing him as a dedicated educator and farmer who has served his community for many years.

The incident comes just days after security forces successfully rescued dozens of pupils and teachers who had been abducted in another part of Oyo State, raising fresh concerns over the resurgence of kidnapping in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had intensified efforts to rescue the headmaster and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. Residents have called for increased security patrols, particularly in rural communities where kidnappings have become more frequent.
