The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured serving and retired military personnel that efforts are underway to implement the recently approved salary increase and corresponding pension adjustments, reaffirming its commitment to improving the welfare of members of the Armed Forces.

The assurance was given during a one-day strategic retreat between the Defence Headquarters and leaders of various military veterans’ associations held at the Army Headquarters Command Mess in Asokoro, Abuja. The event, organised in collaboration with the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers’ Association of Nigeria (RANAO), provided a platform for dialogue on the welfare of retired service personnel.

Representing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, said veterans’ welfare remains a top priority for the military high command. He explained that the approved salary increase and the accompanying pension adjustments are currently undergoing the necessary statutory processes before implementation.

The Defence Headquarters also commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising the welfare of members of the Armed Forces. Military authorities assured veterans that efforts would continue to improve healthcare services, ensure prompt pension payments and introduce better welfare packages for retired personnel.

The DHQ further encouraged retired military personnel to remain active contributors to national development by mentoring younger generations and supporting initiatives that promote national unity and security. It noted that sustained engagement with veterans remains essential to addressing their concerns and strengthening cooperation between serving and retired members of the Armed Forces.
