Grammy-winning singer Lizzo has opened up about why she believes she lost a large portion of her fan base, pointing to the impact of fame, public controversies, and changes in how people relate to celebrities.

In a recent interview, Lizzo said that becoming famous fundamentally changed many of her relationships. She explained that fame made interactions feel different and less genuine, saying that people often begin treating celebrities differently once they become well known.

The singer has also faced significant public scrutiny since 2023, when former dancers filed lawsuits alleging workplace misconduct. Although Lizzo has denied wrongdoing, the controversy affected her public image and coincided with a decline in the widespread popularity she enjoyed during the peak of hits such as Truth Hurts and Good as Hell.

Lizzo has further argued that social media algorithms have made it harder for artists to reach their audiences. She recently claimed that many fans are unaware of her new music because online platforms no longer show content chronologically and instead prioritize algorithm-driven feeds.

In discussing fame, Lizzo warned aspiring entertainers not to chase celebrity status for its own sake, saying that being famous can be isolating and that “everything around you changes.”

The comments come as Lizzo attempts a career resurgence with her new album Bitch, released amid ongoing efforts to reconnect with listeners and rebuild momentum following several difficult years in the spotlight.
