A UK-based Nigerian, Chibueze Chukwurah (34), has been remanded in custody in the United Kingdom over the death of another Nigerian, Taiwo Ekerin (41), following an alleged violent altercation in London.
According to the Metropolitan Police, officers responded to a disturbance on Lewisham High Street around 4:40 a.m. on May 24, 2026, where the victim was found with serious injuries after an alleged assault.
Ekerin was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries on May 30, prompting a murder investigation.
Police said Chukwurah was arrested on June 5 and charged with murder. He appeared in court and was remanded in custody pending further hearings at the Old Bailey.
Another suspect had earlier been arrested in connection with the case, as investigations continue into what led to the fatal confrontation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed a full motive, but described the incident as an ongoing murder investigation.
