Nigerian troops have reportedly killed about 50 terrorists, including a senior commander of the terrorist group Islamic State West Africa Province, during a series of coordinated military operations in Nigeria’s North-East region.

According to military sources, the operations were carried out by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in collaboration with the Air Component and other security agencies across parts of Borno State and neighboring areas. The raids targeted terrorist hideouts, logistics bases, and movement routes used by insurgents.

The military said the neutralized ISWAP commander was among several high-profile insurgent leaders killed during the offensive. A number of weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and other items were also recovered from the terrorists.

Security sources indicated that the successful operations were aided by intelligence gathering and aerial surveillance, which enabled troops to identify and strike terrorist positions.

The military described the offensive as part of ongoing efforts to degrade the operational capacity of terrorist groups and prevent attacks on civilian communities and security formations in the North-East.

Despite recent successes recorded by security forces, authorities acknowledged that counterinsurgency operations remain ongoing, with troops continuing to pursue fleeing insurgents and dismantle remaining terrorist networks in the region.

The latest operation is one of the largest reported military successes against insurgents in recent weeks and comes amid renewed efforts by security agencies to strengthen stability across the North-East.
