Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly foiled a planned terrorist attack on a yam market in Benue State, killing two attackers during a swift security operation.

According to military sources, the operation followed credible intelligence about suspected armed groups preparing to storm a busy market in a rural community in the state. Soldiers were quickly deployed to intercept the attackers before they could carry out the assault.

The troops engaged the suspects in a brief gun battle, during which two of the attackers were neutralised while others escaped with injuries into nearby bush paths.

Security personnel also carried out a follow-up sweep of the area to prevent any further attack and reassure residents. The military said operations in Benue and surrounding North-Central states remain ongoing as part of broader efforts to curb banditry, kidnapping, and terrorist incursions.

Authorities urged residents to remain calm, noting that intelligence-driven operations have continued to disrupt planned attacks across communities in the region.
