Security forces have foiled a coordinated kidnapping attempt in Sokoto State, rescuing 22 abducted victims during a swift military operation in the North-West region.

According to security reports, troops acting on credible intelligence launched a clearance mission after suspected bandits stormed a community and abducted residents. The operation led to a gun battle, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their captives.

The rescued victims were immediately taken into military custody for medical checks and debriefing before being reunited with their families. Authorities confirmed that no ransom was paid during the rescue mission, and efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.

The operation is part of intensified military offensives across Sokoto and neighbouring states aimed at dismantling bandit networks responsible for repeated kidnappings, cattle rustling, and rural attacks in the region.

Security officials have assured residents that surveillance and patrols will be sustained to prevent further attacks, while urging communities to continue providing timely intelligence to aid ongoing counter-banditry operations.
