The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that recent bandit attacks in parts of Sokoto State have led to the displacement of thousands of residents, as renewed violence continues to worsen the humanitarian situation in the North-West.

According to NEMA, affected communities were forced to flee their homes following coordinated attacks by armed groups, leaving many families stranded in nearby towns, host communities, and temporary shelters. The agency noted that the situation has placed additional pressure on already stretched humanitarian resources in the region.

Reports indicate that the attacks, which occurred across several local government areas, resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass movement of civilians seeking safety. Security operatives have since been deployed to the affected areas to restore order and prevent further escalation.

NEMA said it is working with state authorities and humanitarian partners to assess the full scale of displacement and provide relief materials, including food, shelter, and medical support, to affected persons.

The agency also warned that continued insecurity in rural Sokoto communities could worsen displacement trends if urgent interventions are not strengthened.
