The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned grid maintenance exercise that will result in temporary power outages across Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe states on Sunday.

According to TCN, the maintenance will take place at the Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Substation in Kano, where contractors will continue the upgrade of the 330kV Bus II jumpers and replace existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors to improve the transmission network’s reliability and capacity.

The exercise is expected to cause a temporary interruption in electricity supply to customers served by the affected transmission lines. TCN said power will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed and appealed to residents to bear with the inconvenience.

The company explained that the upgrade is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national grid, improve power transmission, and reduce network constraints in the affected region
