Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has urged Nigerians to hold state governors accountable for the challenges facing their states rather than directing all criticism at the President.

Speaking during a recent television interview, Bwala argued that many of the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration have increased revenue allocations to states, making governors key actors in delivering development and improving the welfare of citizens. He maintained that the impact of federal policies should also be assessed through the performance of state governments.

According to Bwala, the Federal Government has implemented initiatives such as the student loan scheme, CNG transportation programme, and healthcare interventions, while state governments have received increased allocations following economic reforms. He said citizens should therefore demand accountability from governors on how these resources are utilized.

The presidential aide’s comments echo earlier remarks by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who urged the media and Nigerians not to focus solely on the Federal Government but also scrutinize state and local governments, especially given increased financial autonomy and allocations.

Bwala acknowledged that many Nigerians are still facing economic hardship but argued that reforms take time to produce visible benefits at the household level. He insisted that governors and local government officials share responsibility for ensuring that increased public revenues translate into improved living conditions.
