The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to urgently investigate alleged diversion and mismanagement of over ₦6.3 billion in constituency project funds or risk being taken to court.
In a letter dated June 27, 2026, SERAP said the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 report, which documented suspected cases of financial irregularities involving constituency projects across several federal agencies.
The organisation demanded that the National Assembly leadership:
- Refer the allegations to anti-corruption agencies
- Publish the identities of contractors and beneficiaries
- Recover any diverted or unaccounted public funds
- Ensure prosecution of anyone found culpable
SERAP warned that it would initiate legal action if the National Assembly fails to act within seven days, stressing that constituency funds are meant for development projects that directly benefit citizens.
The group also referenced findings of irregularities such as payments without due process, unexecuted projects, and undocumented expenditures involving multiple federal institutions, according to the Auditor-General’s report.
