The leadership tussle in the House of Representatives Minority Caucus has taken a new turn as lawmakers have reportedly moved to halt the ambition of Ikenga Ugochinyere to become the Minority Leader.

According to parliamentary developments, opposition members have intensified consultations over the vacant Minority Leadership position following recent political realignments and internal disagreements within the caucus.

The position became vacant after leadership reshuffling and resignations within the opposition bloc, prompting a contest among senior lawmakers over who should coordinate minority affairs in the Green Chamber.

While Ugochinyere had reportedly gained backing from a section of opposition lawmakers, his bid has faced resistance from other influential members who argue that parliamentary tradition and internal procedures must guide the selection process.

Some lawmakers also questioned the legitimacy of the endorsement process, with claims that signatures supporting his nomination were disputed or misrepresented, further deepening tensions within the caucus.

Despite the controversy, supporters of Ugochinyere insist he still commands significant backing within the opposition ranks and remains a strong contender for the role, which is considered one of the most influential positions in the House of Representatives.
