The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed viral reports claiming that bandits or armed groups are planning to invade parts of Lagos State, describing the information as false, misleading, and intended to create unnecessary panic among residents.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, intelligence assessments and security monitoring have not uncovered any credible threat supporting the circulating claims. The police urged residents to disregard the rumours and avoid sharing unverified messages on social media.

The command noted that security agencies remain vigilant and have continued to maintain surveillance and patrol operations across the state to ensure public safety.

Police authorities warned that the spread of false security alerts can cause fear, disrupt normal activities, and undermine public confidence in legitimate security information.

Residents were encouraged to obtain information only from official channels of the Lagos State Police Command and other recognized security agencies. The police also advised members of the public to report any suspicious activity through established emergency lines rather than relying on social media speculation.

The clarification follows the circulation of messages on various online platforms alleging that armed bandits were moving toward Lagos communities. Authorities stressed that there is currently no evidence of any planned invasion as claimed in the reports.

While dismissing the rumours, the police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and assured Lagos residents that adequate security measures remain in place throughout the state.
