Fresh details have emerged on the ongoing rescue operation for pupils and teachers abducted in parts of Oyo State, revealing that the attackers are deliberately using diversion tactics to frustrate security efforts.


According to security sources, the terrorists behind the May 15 attacks in Oriire Local Government Area are believed to be members of Boko Haram, who have since been trapped within the Old Oyo National Park. 


The abductors reportedly moved victims into the vast forest after storming three schools, abducting dozens of pupils and teachers 

Investigations show that the armed group has intensified efforts to slow down military rescue operations by:


  • Planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) within forest routes
  • Constantly relocating abducted victims to avoid tracking
  • Launching or supporting attacks in other regions to stretch security forces thin  



Security analysts say these actions are part of a wider strategy to divert attention from the Oyo forest operation and reduce pressure on the

Troops deployed to the Old Oyo National Park have reportedly surrounded large sections of the forest, limiting escape routes for the terrorists. However, the terrain has made operations difficult, with sources confirming that soldiers have already suffered casualties during exchanges of fire and IED encounters. 


The abductors are also said to be demanding conditions for the release of the victims, including negotiations involving detained commanders, further complicating the rescue process. 

Authorities maintain that they are committed to rescuing all abducted pupils and teachers alive, while insisting that no concessions that empower terrorist groups will be accepted.


Security operations are still ongoing inside the forest as troops continue to search for the location of the victims, who are believed to still be within the expansive national park area.
