Hadiza El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that she and members of her family are under surveillance, claiming their phones have been bugged and that they are being monitored by security agencies.

The claim comes amid the controversy surrounding Nasir El-Rufai’s earlier remarks that a phone conversation involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu had been intercepted, a statement that sparked widespread calls for an investigation into alleged wiretapping activities.

Hadiza has also rejected allegations that anti-corruption investigators recovered sophisticated wiretapping equipment from the family’s residence. She insisted that no such devices were found during searches conducted by authorities and accused officials of spreading false information.

The controversy has fueled a broader debate about surveillance, privacy rights, and national security in Nigeria. Legal experts and civil society groups have called for transparency and proper oversight of any interception activities, warning against abuses of surveillance powers.

Meanwhile, government allies and security experts have continued to demand a probe into El-Rufai’s own comments regarding the alleged interception of the NSA’s communications, arguing that such claims raise serious national security concerns if true.
