A fresh attack by suspected militia members has left one person dead and several houses destroyed in Mbagena Kpav community, Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, according to local sources and community leaders. The attackers reportedly stormed the area in the early hours of Saturday, forcing residents to flee for safety.

Witnesses said the assailants set homes ablaze during the raid, leaving many families displaced. The victim killed in the attack was identified as a local resident, while others escaped with varying degrees of injuries and trauma. Community members described the incident as another episode in the recurring violence affecting rural parts of Benue State.

Residents have appealed to the federal and state governments to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities, arguing that repeated attacks have disrupted farming activities and daily life. Many victims are said to be taking refuge in neighboring communities while assessing the extent of their losses.

The attack comes amid ongoing security challenges in Benue, where clashes involving armed groups, militias, and suspected herders have resulted in deaths, displacement, and the destruction of property over the past year. Authorities have yet to announce any arrests in connection with the latest incident, but security agencies are reportedly monitoring the area.

Community leaders have called for a thorough investigation and long-term measures to prevent further violence, warning that continued attacks could worsen the humanitarian situation in affected parts of the state.
