A fresh attack by suspected militias has left one person dead and several houses destroyed by fire in a community in Benue State, according to preliminary security reports. The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have continued to affect rural communities across the state.

According to findings from security assessments, the attackers invaded the community, killing one resident and setting multiple homes ablaze before fleeing. The extent of property damage is still being evaluated, while security agencies have reportedly been deployed to the area to prevent further violence.

Local residents said the attack forced many families to flee for safety, with some seeking refuge in neighboring communities. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

The latest assault comes amid persistent insecurity in Benue State, where communities have repeatedly experienced attacks linked to armed groups and long-running farmer-herder conflicts. Recent incidents in the state have resulted in deaths, displacement, and the destruction of homes and farmlands.

State authorities and security agencies have pledged to investigate the attack and strengthen security in affected areas, while community leaders continue to call for more decisive action to protect residents.
