Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has nominated Martin Anayochukwu Oli, an indigene of Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, as a commissioner-designate, making him the second non-Edo indigene appointed into the current administration.

The nomination was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Umar Ikhilor, who said the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and ensuring that the state’s diverse communities are represented in government.

According to the statement, Oli is a businessman and community leader based in Edo State and has been active in grassroots development initiatives within the state’s Igbo community. The government said his nomination recognizes the contributions of non-indigenes to Edo’s economic and social development.

The government noted that this is the second major appointment involving a non-Edo ethnic group since Okpebholo assumed office, following the appointment of Abdulkarim Kadiri, a Hausa-Fulani community leader, as Special Adviser on Community Matters in November 2024.

The nomination will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation before Oli can formally assume office as commissioner
