The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS) suffered a cyberattack, insisting that the platform remains secure and that no education data has been compromised.
In a statement issued through the Federal Ministry of Education, authorities said the reports were based on a misunderstanding of a technical issue affecting the platform’s security certificate and not evidence of a successful cyber breach. The ministry maintained that there was no unauthorized access to the database and no loss or manipulation of sensitive education records.
The clarification follows recent concerns after users encountered browser security warnings while attempting to access the NEMIS portal. The warnings sparked speculation that the platform, which stores critical education statistics and planning data, had been hacked.
According to the ministry, technical teams immediately investigated the issue and confirmed that the integrity of the system and its data remained intact. Officials reassured stakeholders, including schools, education administrators, and development partners, that the platform continues to operate securely.
The government also urged the public to rely on official information and avoid spreading unverified reports that could cause unnecessary panic about the country’s education data infrastructure.
