The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major opioid trafficking network and arrested multiple suspects in coordinated operations across six states as part of its ongoing crackdown on drug cartels. The operations led to the seizure of large quantities of opioids and other illicit substances, with authorities describing the arrests as a significant blow to drug trafficking syndicates.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the raids were carried out following intelligence gathering and surveillance that tracked the movement and distribution of narcotics across several parts of the country. Among those arrested were suspected traffickers involved in the transportation, storage, and sale of opioid products.

The agency said the operation resulted in the recovery of substantial quantities of tramadol, codeine-based products, and other controlled substances believed to have been destined for illegal distribution networks. Investigators are also working to identify additional members of the syndicate and trace the sources of the drugs.

NDLEA Chairman Mohammed Buba Marwa praised the officers involved, stating that the agency remains committed to targeting major drug traffickers and dismantling criminal networks fueling addiction and crime across Nigeria.

The latest operation comes amid intensified nationwide efforts by the NDLEA to curb the trafficking of opioids and other narcotics, which authorities say continue to pose serious public health and security challenges.
