The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered and dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate after intercepting a large shipment of Canadian Loud cannabis worth about ₦12.3 billion at the Apapa Port in Lagos.
According to NDLEA officials, operatives recovered about 4,959 kilograms of the illicit substance during a joint operation involving the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies.
The shipment was reportedly tracked for several weeks after it was discovered that it was concealed inside a 40-foot container that had passed through multiple countries, including Canada, Morocco, and others, before arriving in Nigeria.
The agency also confirmed that the seizure led to the disruption of a wider drug trafficking network that specializes in importing and distributing narcotics disguised in commercial cargo.
NDLEA said investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and ensure all those connected to the shipment are prosecuted.
