The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected the outcome of its recent governorship primary election, declaring that the results announced after the exercise were not officially recognized by the party leadership.
In a statement issued by party officials, the NDC said the purported results did not follow due process and therefore could not be regarded as the party’s final position regarding the primary election.
The party consequently summoned an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to review the situation and formally ratify the authentic outcome of the primary.
According to the leadership, the NEC remains the highest decision-making body of the party after its national convention and possesses the authority to validate major electoral processes and resolve internal disputes.
The controversy reportedly emerged after conflicting claims surfaced regarding the winner of the governorship primary, creating confusion among party members and supporters.
Party officials urged members to remain calm and avoid actions capable of worsening tensions while the NEC reviews the matter.
The development adds to a growing trend of internal disputes and leadership disagreements affecting several political parties ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of reporting, the date for the NEC meeting had been fixed, with expectations that the committee would clarify the party’s position and officially determine the valid outcome of the primary election.
