The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank of prominent constitutional lawyer Mike Ozekhome pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against him. The decision was taken at the LPPC’s 173rd General Meeting held on June 23, 2026.
In a statement signed by Kabir Akanbi, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, the committee said the suspension was made under Paragraph 26(6) of the guidelines governing the SAN rank. The committee said the measure is intended to protect the integrity, dignity, and prestige of the rank while the matters under review are resolved.
The LPPC directed Ozekhome to stop presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until the disciplinary proceedings are concluded.
Although the LPPC did not officially detail the allegations behind the disciplinary action, the suspension comes amid legal controversies involving Ozekhome, including proceedings linked to a disputed London property case and allegations of forgery that have been the subject of court actions this year.
The committee stressed that it remains committed to maintaining professional ethics and public confidence in the SAN rank, which is the highest distinction for legal practitioners in Nigeria
