The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) faction known as the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) has dismissed reports suggesting that former Kano State governor and party leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso threatened to leave the party, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

According to the group, there has been no official statement or indication from Kwankwaso suggesting any plan to dump the NNPP or disengage from its ongoing political structure. It insisted that such rumours are being spread to create confusion within the party ahead of future elections.

The NDC further stated that Kwankwaso remains a central figure in the party’s leadership and continues to play a key role in its strategic direction and grassroots mobilisation, particularly in northern Nigeria where the party maintains significant support.

The clarification comes amid ongoing political speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various parties positioning themselves for alliances and defections.

Party members urged the public to disregard what they described as “baseless reports” and focus on the party’s efforts to strengthen its structures across the country.

Kwankwaso, a former defence minister and presidential candidate, remains one of Nigeria’s influential opposition figures, with a strong political base in Kano State and beyond.
