Former Ogun Central senator and daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what she described as persistent disrespect, exclusion, and political marginalisation within the party.

In a resignation letter dated May 31, 2026, and addressed to the Ogun State APC chairman, Iyabo said she was leaving because she no longer felt welcomed by the party leadership despite her loyalty and contributions. She wrote:

“When disrespect is the only dish served, then one should leave the table.”

The former senator recently sought the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State. She alleged that the consensus process that produced Solomon Adeola as the party’s candidate did not adequately involve all aspirants and that some of her supporters were prevented from accessing the venue where the consensus candidate was announced.

According to her, although she accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity and publicly congratulated Adeola, requests later made by her supporters were ignored. She said this reflected a broader pattern of neglect and disregard for her political aspirations within the party.

Despite her grievances, Iyabo expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu, Ogun APC leaders, and party officials for the courtesies extended to her during her time in the APC.

Her departure is being viewed as a significant development in Ogun politics ahead of the 2027 elections and has renewed discussions about internal democracy and inclusiveness within political parties.
