At least one person was killed and 63 others injured after an Iranian drone and missile attack struck Kuwait International Airport, according to Kuwaiti authorities. The attack caused significant damage to the airport’s main terminal and forced the suspension of commercial flights.
Kuwait’s Defense Ministry said a number of hostile drones targeted Terminal 1, resulting in extensive damage to airport infrastructure and injuries to passengers and staff. Flight operations were temporarily halted, although some services later resumed after safety assessments.
The strike comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. The attack followed U.S. military strikes on Iranian targets, including facilities on Qeshm Island, prompting retaliatory missile and drone launches by Iran toward Kuwait and Bahrain.
Kuwait condemned the assault as a violation of its sovereignty and warned that it reserves the right to respond. Several Gulf countries, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, also denounced the attacks and called for a unified regional response.
According to reports, the attack also damaged diplomatic facilities in Kuwait and disrupted air travel across the country. Kuwaiti authorities described the incident as one of the most serious escalations affecting the Gulf state since the ceasefire announced in April.
The U.S. military stated that some Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain were intercepted or failed to reach their targets, while other drones were successfully neutralized. However, at least one drone struck the airport, causing the reported casualties and destruction.
The latest developments have heightened concerns about a broader regional conflict and have contributed to renewed uncertainty in Gulf security and international energy markets.
