The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the indefinite suspension of the Office of the Leader of IPOB and the position of Director of Radio Biafra, both previously held by Nnamdi Kanu. The decision was reportedly taken by the group’s Directorate of State (DOS) during a leadership meeting held on June 17.

In a statement attributed to the DOS and signed by Chika Edoziem, the group said the move was intended to safeguard its operations, prevent security breaches, and stop individuals from carrying out unauthorized actions in the name of IPOB.

The leadership alleged that certain communications and activities linked to the suspended offices had contributed to arrests and other security concerns affecting members. It also claimed that some groups were using the authority of the offices to justify actions that conflict with IPOB’s stated objectives.

IPOB stressed that any actions taken by persons claiming authority from the now-suspended offices would no longer be regarded as actions of the organization. The group also maintained that its Directorate of State remains the apex decision-making body and cannot be dissolved by any individual.

The development marks a significant twist in the internal affairs of IPOB and could further reshape the leadership structure of the separatist movement in the coming months.
