The mother of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, Evangelist Jane Mmerechi Ekubo-Okwaraeke, has shared a heartfelt tribute, saying she still longs for her son’s calls, chats, encouragement, and prayers weeks after his passing.
The emotional message was published in the funeral programme distributed during Ekubo’s burial in Arochukwu, Abia State. In the tribute, titled “A Tribute to My Exceptional Son – I Love You Till Tomorrow,” she described the late actor as her joy and pride, recalling the special bond they shared.
She wrote, “I am still longing for your calls, chats, care, unconditional love, your gist, your encouragement, your advice, our corporate prayers, and our praise and worship sessions.” She also described him as an exceptional son whose life was devoted to God, humanity, and spreading the Gospel.
Mrs. Ekubo said the pain of losing her son remains overwhelming but expressed gratitude for the impact he made during his lifetime. She recalled that Alex once told her that introducing him to Jesus was the greatest gift she ever gave him and said she finds comfort in the hope of seeing him again.
Alex Ekubo died on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40, following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer after what his family described as a courageous battle with the illness
