Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said he plans to attend the FIFA World Cup, expressing excitement about the global football tournament set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
Trump made the comment during a public engagement where he spoke about major international events coming to the United States, including sports and diplomatic gatherings. He said the World Cup is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events in history due to its expanded format and multi-country hosting arrangement.
He added that hosting the tournament would showcase America’s capacity to organize large-scale global events and boost tourism and economic activity across host cities.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanded from 32, and will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Matches are expected to be played in major cities across all three countries.
Trump’s remarks come amid preparations by host nations to finalize logistics, security arrangements, and stadium readiness ahead of the tournament, which is expected to attract millions of fans worldwide.
His statement has also drawn attention due to his political profile and ongoing influence in U.S. politics, making his potential attendance a talking point in both sports and political circles.
