Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo has alleged that some politicians are sponsoring kidnappers responsible for the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. He threatened to publicly name those involved if the attacks continue.
Speaking while receiving newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at his residence in Ibadan, Igboho claimed he knows the identities of politicians allegedly providing funds and ammunition to the kidnappers.
According to him, he had volunteered to help rescue the abducted schoolchildren but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government. He further alleged that authorities later informed him that the kidnappers threatened to kill the victims if he attempted a rescue operation.
Igboho argued that the kidnappers could be driven out of their forest hideouts if local security groups were allowed to operate more aggressively. He said his proposed security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, had received federal approval but was not allowed to participate in the rescue efforts.
He also linked the insecurity to what he described as attempts by certain political actors to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that some individuals want to make the country appear ungovernable.
It is important to note that Igboho did not publicly name any politician or provide evidence to support the allegations. As of now, no security agency has confirmed his claims, and no formal charges have been announced against any politician in connection with the Oyo kidnappings.
His remarks come amid widespread concern over the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers in Oriire LGA and ongoing efforts by security agencies to secure their release.
