Heavy traffic was reported in parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as protesters took to major roads demanding the rescue and release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of the state. The demonstration disrupted movement around key routes, including the Mokola–University College Hospital (UCH) axis.

The protesters, made up of members of the Take-It-Back Movement, teachers, students, and concerned residents, carried placards bearing messages such as “Bring Back Our Children,” “47 Abducted,” and “Government Must End Kidnapping in Oyo State.”

The protest stems from the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers from schools in communities within Oriire LGA on May 15. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with parents, civil society groups, and education stakeholders calling for stronger action from the government and security agencies.

Security personnel were deployed to strategic locations across Ibadan to maintain order during the demonstration. Protest leaders said the action was intended to draw attention to the plight of the victims and the worsening insecurity affecting schools and communities in Oyo State.

The protests come as troops continue rescue operations in and around the Old Oyo National Park, where the abductees are believed to be held. Authorities have said efforts to secure their release are ongoing.
